AVB BACKS CHELSEA

Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has said that the West London outfit are the favourites to win the Premier league in 2014. Andre Villas-Boas was at Chelsea for a couple of months before being sacked due to poor results. He has since gone on to manage Tottenham, while doing a good job with the North London club. Even though Tottenham fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, they have failed by achieving their highest ever points tally in the Premier league. Chelsea failed to win the Premier league this season after a good start to the campaign under Roberto di Matteo.

The club has not won the league title since 2009, and it is expected that they will be spending big in the summer in the hopes of winning the title. Former manager José Mourinho is also likely to return to Stamford Bridge for a second spell. Chelsea had a remarkable consistency under Mourinho, which helped them lift two league titles in three years. Villas-Boas expects Chelsea to return to their former glory after the return of Mourinho, who is widely tipped to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in the next few months.

“Chelsea next season will absolutely be the team to beat. Bearing in mind the manager change and the manager that we expect to come in. Plus they will be strengthening an already very good squad. I think what it represents, if we don’t achieve it, is one more sign that you have to push up to get closer to that group. Our step at the moment is to be into the Champions League,” said Villas-Boas. For long periods of the season, it looked like Tottenham would finish in the fourth position. The Portuguese manager has said that he would like to strengthen the team with some new additions in the summer.
