Mauricio Pochettino takes on Gaal on Fixture Issue

Mauricio Pochettino has taken a dig at his Manchester United counterpart, Louis Van Gaal, by saying that the Dutchman should stop moaning about the fixture congestion. Van Gaal has been heavily voicing his opinion against the lack of a winter break in English football. Further, he has also been taken aback by the number of fixtures during the Christmas period. Unlike in most leagues across Europe, the English football does not take a break during Christmas. Instead, there are several matches in the space of a week. Van Gaal’s criticism, though, is not valid given that all the teams have to go through the same schedule according to Pochettino.

The former Southampton boss has been enjoying our good run of form during the Christmas period. The sheer number of points available for teams to pick up during this time has enabled Tottenham to zoom ahead of the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool into the top six. They have yet another tough match against Chelsea on New Year’s Day, but Pochettino is already looking forward to getting back on the pitch. Van Gaal did not make any changes to the United team that could only get a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane. This was the first time that United have brought an unchanged team in 85 league matches.

“The condition was the same for both teams. We never complain about when the opponent has the same condition as you.For Tottenham, from the beginning of the season, is the team that has had less recovery days in every competition. I never complain about that.I think Manchester had the same hours to recover as us. We showed we are more solid as a team,” said Pochettino. “I don’t have possibility to change because we don’t have the most fit players in the world,” said Van Gaal.
