Jose Mourinho praises incredible performance from Tottenham midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Dele Alli following another impressive Premier League performance. The England international has been Spurs’ standout player since the appointment of Mourinho at the helm last month and he came up with the crucial winner in the 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Boxing Day.

The north London side had a goal chalked off for offside in the first half and they went into the break with a deficit after Adam Webster scored from a corner for Brighton. However, they managed to level the scores shortly after the interval through Harry Kane before Alli came up with a quick strike on goal from a Serge Aurier pass.

Luke Shaw talks up Daniel James’ dribbling ability with speed

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has said that teammate Daniel James is different from many young players in the Premier League, given his ability to dribble while moving at high speeds. The Wales international was largely an unknown to the United faithful during the summer transfer window after he made the move from the Championship side Swansea City.

Since then, the 21-year-old has made his mark with three league goals and he is currently regarded as one of the undisputed starters under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Speaking on Sky Sports, Shaw raved about the pace attribute of the former Swans ace and said that it is difficult to counter him when he is dribbling with speed, he told: “He is unbelievably fast. It is quite scary at times in training. Some people don’t realise how quick he is until he has taken the ball and gone. It’s not just his pace, he’s good with the ball. He likes to run in behind but he can come short as well.”

Reputed football expert Duncan Castles has said that Mauricio Pochettino could be heading out of Tottenham Hotspur in the near future. Tottenham Not on Par with Champions League Elite, says Lloris

Hugo Lloris has dampened the spirits ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League group game against Olympiakos by claiming that the club are not built for success in this competition. Spurs have been able to mix with the heavyweights in the last five years after consistently qualifying for the competition’s group stages, which is financially well rewarding. It is extremely important for the team to reach this stage regularly so that they can compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. There are even teams that have achieved a far greater success in this competition and it will be very difficult for Spurs to straight away match them.

The club defied all odds to reach the final of the Champions League last season and narrowly missed out on the ultimate prize. It is a remarkable achievement from a team that first had a taste of this competition only in the 2010-11 season. Lloris, though, reckons that Spurs have the ability to shake away the demons of the past. After having played at Spurs for a number of years, Lloris is in a great position to judge the experience of the squad. He says that players like Harry Kane and Dele Alli have grown along with the club to put themselves in a great position to challenge for further honours.

Danny Rose sends defiant message to the critics after strong start

England international Danny Rose has said that he has nothing to prove to anyone after re-establishing himself as a regular for club and country. The left-sided defender was left out of the pre-season tour of Asia this summer and reports thereafter emerged that he could head through the exit door at the earliest opportunity.

However, that was certainly not the case and he has now managed to redeem himself by starting the opening four league games for Spurs while reclaiming a starting role with the England national side. Speaking to reporters, Rose said that he does not need to prove himself at the present point of time and he has a manager, who trusts his abilities at the club level, he said: “I don’t need to prove myself to anybody. I have a manager at club level who knows me. You look at last season – I played in the quarter-final of the Champions League, I played in the semi-finals of Champions League, I played in the final. So I’ve got a manager there who believes in me.”

Paul Robinson urges Tottenham to part ways with Christian Eriksen

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged the north London side to part ways with Christian Eriksen. The Denmark international has less than 12 months remaining on his contract at Spurs and so far, the playmaker has shown no indication of penning a renewal with the Premier League giants.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Robinson said that the Dane has much made the mind up to pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere and Spurs should sanction his sale at the earliest possibility, he told: “I’d be surprised if they do keep hold of him due to the fact that he still hasn’t signed his contract that he has been offered.

Mauricio Pochettino unsure regarding striker options for next season

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has acknowledged that he is unsure whether the club will pursue another striker to supplement Harry Kane next season. The north London side have parted ways with both Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen this summer and this sees them with just one out-of-out marksman in the form of Kane.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Pochettino said that he has no idea regarding the transfer proceedings, given the club are entirely in charge of the summer business. He added that young graduate Troy Parrott could make the breakthrough with the first-team next season, should the club fail to pursue another striker before the transfer deadline next month, he said: “He’s still so young but we will see what happens at the end of the transfer market. If we still have the squad we have today of course he’s going to have the chance to be part of the first team. Always the club signs players, not Mauricio.”

Chimbonda says Tottenham made the right choice to ignore Wan-Bissaka

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Pascal Chimbonda has said that Spurs made the right choice to withdraw their interest in signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 21-year-old had captured the attention of both Spurs and Manchester United but ultimately, the latter won the race for his signature after agreeing on a package worth £50m with Crystal Palace.

Speaking to Goal.com, Chimbonda said that the north London giants made the right decision with Wan-Bissaka, considering the right-back is far from the finished article, he quipped: “Tottenham made the right choice to not try and sign Wan-Bissaka. He had a very good season for Palace, but he’s still very far off from becoming a proven player. Tottenham need to strengthen other parts of the pitch more urgently and Wan-Bissaka would have taken a massive wedge out of the transfer budget.”

Bent says Tottenham fans won’t fume over Christian Eriksen’s exit

Former Tottenham Hotspur ace Darren Bent has said that Spurs supporters won’t have any hatred towards Christian Eriksen, should he part ways with the club during the current transfer window. The Denmark international has just 12 months remaining on his existing deal with the club and so far, he has shown no intention of putting pen-to-paper on a new contract.

As such, the north London side face the potential risk of losing him on a free in 12 months’ time and Bent believes there won’t be any ill-feeling from the fans, should the Dane seek a fresh challenge this summer, he told Sky Sports: “No Spurs fan will look at Eriksen and give him any stick because he’s been loyal to them and given them great service. The fans will let him go with open arms. He’d be a big loss but he’d fit the mould for Real Madrid really well. I don’t know how much they are planning on spending because they’ve already spent £200m and they’d have to spend another £80-100m to get Eriksen.”
