Shearer believes Greenwood will make England squad for Euro 2020

Former England star Alan Shearer has backed Mason Greenwood to make the Three Lions squad for Euro 2020 following his excellent breakthrough season with Manchester United. The 18-year-old has been in superb form since the restart after the COVID-19 break and he recently registered his 14th and 15 goals of the campaign.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Shearer heaped praise on the Red Devils graduate, who has proved a regular threat on goal with his ambidextrous ability, he told: “He can hit it with his left and hit it with his right equally well and there’s no nonsense, he just wants to shoot. He actually reminds me of what I used to do, shifting the ball on to the right foot before getting as much power as possible behind the shot.”

SPURS DRAW UP STRIKER SHORTLIST

Tottenham Hotspur have drawn up a three-man list of strikers, with the club attempting to strengthen their attacking options for the new season. Spurs failed to find a replacement for Fernando Llorente after the veteran departed on a free transfer to Napoli at the end of the 2018-19 season, and the lack of options up front was exposed during the 2019-2020 campaign after top strikers Harry Kane and Son Heung-min suffered season-ending injuries with a few months left.

Tottenham have already signed midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton, right-back Matt Doherty from Wolves and goalkeeper Joe Hart on a free transfer ahead of Jose Mourinho’s first full season in charge, leaving just another striker on his wish list.

According to Football London, Spurs have shortlisted three strikers – having opted not to bid for the duo of Ollie Watkins or Callum Wilson of Bournemouth. Watkins has since made a £25 million move to Aston Villa, with the price tag deemed too expensive for Spurs, while Wilson’s age and injury records meant he was considered too much of a risk for the club, but he ended up as Newcastle United’s marquee signing instead – even though https://www.betinireland.ie/ had made Spurs the hot favourites to sign him.

Tottenham are now looking the way of RB Salzburg player Patson Daka, who scored 24 goals in 31 games last season, amongst others, though Spurs are struggling to tempt the right kind of players across to White Hart Lane. The issue for any striker making the switch to Tottenham is amount of game time – the status Kane is afforded in north London meant it will be very difficult for any new addition to topple him, which is a sentiment that was backed by former Spurs defender Micheal Dawson. The former England international acknowledged the importance of Kane to Tottenham, admitting it will be very difficult for any striker to displace the England captain.

Habib Diallo and Arkadiuz Milik of Metz and Napoli respectively are other strikers the club have shortlisted for a possible deal. Their availability isn’t quite as clear-cut as Spurs would like it to be, with Milik also wanted by Roma, who need to offload Dzeko to Inter in order to make the deal work, and Diallo also being chased by Sevilla.

After the drab loss on the first day of the season (when Mourinho professed that he didn’t recognise the team, or like them), Spurs are keen to get a new striker in sooner rather than later.

After the disappointment of last season, which saw fan favourite boss Mauricio Pochettino booted out, and Jose Mourinho taking his place in the dugout but failing to arrest the falling standards in their play, Tottenham will be keen to make this season count. Having been finalists in the Champions League just before LLorente left, they failed to qualify for the premier competition in European football this season, and will have to make do with the Europa League. It is not a set up that attracts the kind of player they need to step up to the next level, so will require some creative thinking from the manager and Chairman Daniel Levy to find a solution.

Southgate Should Convince Vardy to RejoinThe Team, says Collymore

Gareth Southgate should make sure that the team appearing for Euro 2021 will not be lacking any strength in the case of striker says Stan Collymore. He said in mid-90s England had a varied set of forwards to choose from. Former Englandcoach Terry Venables had players like Alan Shearer, Teddy Sheringham, Andy Cole, Paul Merson, Chris Sutton, Les Ferdinandand Michael Owen to choose from.

Euro 1996 has been a great tournament for the team and people still look back at the memories fondly. Venables was able to create a fine balance between Shearer and Sheringham. But Collymore always felt that if he didn’t pick the forwards well for the tournament. If he had included other forwards from the options he had then the team could have done better in the tournament and achieved better results.

Alderweireld: People don’t see the hard work

Tottenham player Toby Alderweireld believes that there are many better days to come for the Spurs. With the win over Arsenal, they have gained more confidence and the defender backing up his club has said that the club will be pushing forward in their game and will show the true potential.

Alderweireld gave the lead for the club with just nine minutes left in the game becoming the hero of the game. Arsenal was the one leading the game with the early goal from Alexandre Lacazette but the holes in the defence lead Son Heung Min to score an equaliser to the goal soon. With the victory against them, they were able to move to eighth position on the Premier League. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho believes that this win will make them stronger and help them make a better start to the new campaign, which is set to start in just a few short weeks time. Continue reading

KANE MISSING ERIKSEN AND DEMBELE?

Harry Kane cuts a frustrated figure upfront at Tottenham Hotspurs. The striker seems rushed from injury with the lockdown not helping matters. He has scored twice since the Premier League restarted but such returns after six games is his worse tally in over five years.

Kane has scored 19 times after 31 games in all competitions, which is an impressive return but for the Three Lions star the standard is higher. An argument can be made that the new Spurs setup does not favour him as much.

Southgate Pleased to Make an Impact with England

Gareth Southgate has claimed that the England job has become a more fulfilling than any of his previous jobs, as it is possible to have a stronger impact on the society while trying to create something good. After showing a lot of promise in the early years of his managerial career, Southgate could not make it to the top level in club football. However, he was brought in as the England manager in 2016 against much surprise. After nearly spending four years as the top boss in England, Southgate says that a lot of impact has been created on him personally.

The former Middlesbrough manager has made a lot of changes to the setup. One of the key among them would be the 2018 World Cup, when England reached the semifinals against all the odds. Furthermore, the team also managed a third place finish in the Nations League that was recently held. It remains to be seen if Southgate will be retained as the England manager after the World Cup 2022, as his contract expires. Due to the lockdown measures, football has come to a halt and England were not involved in matches during March. This has given Southgate plenty of time to reflect on his job as the national team coach.

Barcelona Will Profit from SigningNdombele, says Bent

Darren Bent believes that when the transfer window opens Barcelona will be interested in signing Tanguy Ndombele. The player was signed by Tottenham Hotspur for £63 million from Lyon in the last year. Even though being an exceptional player, he was unable to find his foot in the club. The French footballer has played or Spurs in 27 games and has scored a couple of goals and four assists. He was taken by the club for a five-year contract.

Kevin Phillips urges Tottenham to sign Chelsea winger this summer

Former Premier League star Kevin Phillips has urged Tottenham Hotspur to land the signature of Willian on a free transfer in the summer. The Brazil international has been with Chelsea for the past six-and-a-half years but he appears likely to leave them on a free when his contract expires at the end of June.

The 31-year-old has been in discussions over a renewed deal with the west London side but so far, there has not been any progress with the Blues reluctant to meet his demands for a three-year contract. As a result, Willian has been fancied to make a move across London to either Tottenham or Arsenal and Phillips believes the former would suit the Brazilian.
