AVB satisfied with draw

Even though Spurs have still not managed to record a win in the Europa League this term, Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that he is satisfied following the club’s 1-1 draw with NK Maribor on in the competition on Thursday.

After Maribor took the lead in the early stages of the first half, Tottenham managed to force a draw following a strike from Gylfi Sigurdsson in the second forty five minutes of the game. However, while the team may have shown some very good promise to recover from being a goal down, the facts still show that Spurs still haven’t won a game in the group stage of the tournament following three consecutive draws.

Nevertheless, Andre Villas-Boas remains quite satisfied with everything he has seen and insists that the club still have a good chance of qualifying. He told the press, “The second half was extremely good, the first half was not so good. We came back into the game, which is pleasant to see again and it is good for us to bounce back. It is obviously not the full result we wanted bearing in mind the draw between Lazio and Panathinaikos, but certainly we will take a point. The group is completely open. What we face now is two games at home and I think we are in a good position in the group.”

Following on from the draw, Spurs still have a decent chance of qualifying with just one point separating them from Maribor, who currently occupy 2nd position in the group. In fact, with just two points keeping the club away from group leaders Lazio, there is no reason why they can’t progress as winners as long as they can start to convert these draws into victories over the course of the next three games in the competition.
