Eriksen tips Vertonghen

While there is plenty of speculation surrounding Christian Eriksen’s future at the moment, the Ajax midfielder has moved quickly to take himself away from the spotlight and concentrate on Jan Vertonghen. His domestic teammate is poised to make a switch to Spurs in the next few weeks and Eriksen has tipped the central defender to be a huge success in England’s top flight.

Speaking to Goal.com, Eriksen said, “He is a brilliant signing for Tottenham and a really, really good player. He is too good for the Dutch league now. It’s too easy for him and it’s the right time for him to leave. He is the best player in Holland and has all the skills that will make him a success in the Premier League. He is good with and without the ball, he is physically strong and he’s a leader for the team. From what I see, Tottenham like to play good football so I think he will be a perfect signing for them. I know there was interest from other clubs but he made up his mind.”

Of course, there is still a small chance that the deal will not go ahead. While Vertonghen and his agent have made no secret of their desire for the defender to join Spurs, a financial package has still not been agreed between Tottenham and Ajax. It’s understood that the Dutch giants are seeking €15 million for Vertonghen, although Spurs are a long way off in their valuation with the defenders’ contract set to expire only next summer.

However, with Vertonghen, his agent and Harry Redknapp all publically stating that a move is on the horizon, there are not too many doubts surrounding the transfer and Vertonghen will most likely move to White Hart Lane once his international duties at Euro 2012 have been completed.
