Giovani set for White Hart Lane exit

While there have been intense rumours surrounding the futures of Rafael van der Vaart and Luka Modric, there has been little speculation regarding any other of the players at White Hart Lane. It now appears as though at least one could be exiting the club, with Giovani dos Santos claiming that he is desperate to leave Spurs and will simply run his contract down if he does not become more involved in the first team.

Giovani made a high-profile move to White Hart Lane in 2008, joining from Barcelona in a transfer said to be worth almost £5m. However, despite possessing a glistening reputation at the time, things just haven’t worked for the Mexican and he has played the majority of his football on loan at other clubs. In fact, he’s managed just fourteen starts for Spurs, while he has spent time on loan at Ipswich, Galatasaray and Racing Santander.

It now appears as though the 23-year-old is well and truly fed up with his situation and told Medio Tempio, “I’m either leaving the club this summer, or I’ll sign for another club for free in six months’ time, so I am relaxed about my future”.

However, even though things clearly haven’t worked out at Tottenham, there is still no doubting Giovani’s quality. During his time with the Mexican national team the midfielder has impressed immensely and become a regular for the nation. In fact, despite his young age, Giovani has already made fifty nine appearances for Mexico, scoring fourteen goals in the process.

It now remains to be seen how Andre Villas-Boas will deal with the situation. With the player clearly not suited to the rigours of English football, it would appear likely for Spurs to cash in on him now or risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires next summer.
